Founder'sStory
Avonna Sheppard is a Certified Social Worker with a strong educational and professional foundation in helping individuals and families overcome adversity and build stable, healthier lives. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology from the University of Kentucky and her Master of Social Work from the University of Pikeville.
Throughout her career, Avonna has supported individuals and families navigating housing instability, mental health challenges, substance use, family crises, and barriers to essential resources. Through her work as a hospital social worker, she has witnessed firsthand the need for safe, supportive recovery housing, particularly for women, mothers, and expectant mothers.
This experience inspired the creation of The Nest Recovery, a place designed to provide more than housing. The Nest is envisioned as a supportive environment where women can find stability, accountability, healing, and hope while rebuilding their lives and working toward independence.
"Avonna's vision is to empower women to heal, strengthen their families, break generational cycles, and create a healthier future for themselves and their children."
